CASE STUDIES

Elaine de Kooning (1918-1989)
Photoshoot Dec 1968 - Jan 1969

Provenance Research & Proof of Attribution

Provenance, provenance, provenance. We found a very special painting by Elaine de Kooning that we negotiated on behalf of our clients, to include the 112 black & white photographs that were taken of her painting a massive composition between December 1968 and January 1969. Painted in Pittsburg during her teaching stint at Carnegie Mellon, provenance does not get any better.

Jane Freilicher, “Burnett’s Barn” 1963

Recovering Stolen Paintings

When our clients two paintings were stolen off of a fine art transporters truck in 2022, our firm had two options: go silent in case the thieves were an organized crime ring, or blast the information far and wide to the media, galleries, auction houses, and the Art Loss Register, and globally to collectors asking for leads. Through this strategic effort with the police and the FBI, we recovered the paintings, in tact, in 45 days.

Project Management & Oversight

Public art can be a complicated beast when airport modernization happens. This 28-vessel Betty Woodman “Balustrade” was installed at Denver International Airport in 1995. During the Great Hall Renovation in 2018 we hired the logistics team who safely removed this important installation, crated, and stored the work until it future re-installed.

Curatorial

We believe in the power of well-curated collections of art for public spaces. The importance of working with a curator is in developing the threads of interest in specific works that tie the whole collection together, to educate and to inspire the public.

Commissions & Contracts

Contract negotiations can be lengthy and onerous. Working with artists as the commissioning agents’ representative ensures an auspicious outcome. Working with Haddad Drugan on “Luminous Wind” for the Pena Blvd NEXT Station at Denver International Airport was a project dedicated to the accomplishments of former Denver Mayor Federico Pena.
